Description
Vecoplan VAZ 1600(aka RG 70/200 K FF) Shredder. The bale dimensions were 3 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet in length.
The bales were approximately 800 pounds each.
We were grinding and milling a cellulosic material called Kenaf. It is very similar to Hemp.
We also processed Hemp on this equipment. We were shredding the entire stalk.
This shredder would process 6 bales per hour, running at the slowest setting. ( 4800 lbs./hr. )
Depending on the material and its density, I think this machine is capable of processing close to 8,000 pounds per hour.
When the material was discharged from the shredder, it was fed directly into our hammer mill for further size reduction.
I was running a 1/16-inch screen in the Hammer mill.
When the material exited the Hammer mill, it was suitable for Milling or Pelletizing.
The mean particle size averaged 180 microns.
Our product was then put into an ( ACM ) Air Classifying mill to further reduce the particle size down to a 50 micron mean size.
From the ACM, it was conveyed into the silo, then inside the plant to the bagging line.
We packaged our product in 25-pound multiwall bags.
In 2016, I ran a trial with the material out of the hammer mill.
I ran several thousand pounds through a pellet mill.
I was attempting to make the most absorbent cat litter in the world.
It was a great success
Kenaf is the most absorbent natural material on earth, so I had no doubt that this would work.
On a side note, I had the shredder and the hammer mill communicate with each other.
When the load on my hammer mill would approach full load amps, it would send a signal to the shredder to back off.
The ram would return to the home position and wait 30 seconds.
If at the end of the 30 seconds, the amp load on the Hammer mill was reduced, the shredder would send the ram forward
and begin normal operation.
